Jason Mecier is a San Francisco based 3-D portrait artist. He has spent over 10 years creating outrageous 3-D mosaic portraits of his favorite pop culture icons. Each portrait is created from objects disowned by celebrities and junk such as broken sunglasses, make-up, gum wrappers, jewelry, deodorant, shoes, and other items.

Born in Los Angeles, he has not taken any formal art training. He draws his inspiration from her Grandmother who encouraged him to create masterpieces using readily, easily available materials. His earliest piece was a mosaic made from beans, noodles, rocks, and cut bamboo sticks glued on a piece of wood. Jason believes that he can make art out of anything that he can get his hands on, and there are no rules.

Everything he uses for his art is just so perfect. He uses different kinds of adhesives for different materials he uses to produce his work. Also, food preservatives to preserve the lifespans of mosaics made of beans, noodles, candy, dog food and junk food (like pretzels, chips, cookies and crackers).

Bette Davis

Jason has worked for some of the celebrities like Phyllis Diller, Rosie O’Donnell, Florence Henderson, Mary-Louise Parker, Ricki Lake, RuPaul, Elvira, Margaret Cho, George Lopez, Scissor Sisters, the Go-Go’s, Ryan Adams, Morgan Fairchild, Kathy Najimy, Barbi Benton, Joan Van Ark, Allee Willis, and Heidi Fleiss.

"Celebrities send me their trash. Most people send me anywhere from a shoebox to a trash bag full of things to incorporate into their portraits. Phyllis Diller sends me a small box every few months filled with odd things like pinecones, dried up paints, jewelry, eyeglasses and anti-itch ointments. I also have a bag of Pam Anderson's laundry, and a letter Paris Hilton wrote me from prison!"

George Lopez

Rosie O’Donnell

His artwork is showcased at number of places, from cafes, hair salons to art galleries, major museums and inside celebrity homes. His spectacular artwork has attracted international coverage too.

Each portrait is a real beauty and the materials used make them very creative and unique. The prices of the portraits starts at $1,500. To see more creations by him, you can visit his website at jasonmecier.com.
