Google has very recently launched its own version of 'Like' button which seems like Google's another much needed effort towards social networking. +1 is a social recommendation button that Google likes to call: "digital shorthand for 'this is pretty cool'".

This button will appear in Google's search results and adverts where you can see which links or ads your social circle has "+1'd".

Here's how Google's Product Manager, Rob Spiro explains it:

"Say for example, you're planning a winter trip to Tahoe, Calif. When you do a search, you may now see a +1 from your slalom-skiing aunt next to the result for a lodge in the area. Or if you're looking for a new pasta recipe, we'll show you +1's from your culinary genius college roommate. And even if none of your friends are Baristas or caffeine addicts, we many still show you how many people across the web have +1'd your local coffee shop."

So how Google plans to find and display your friend's +1s is that it will include recommendations from people who are already connected with you through chat and contacts, for which you need to have a Google profile. In the future they intend to include your contacts in Twitter as well.

"We're confident that +1, combined with all of the social content we're now including in search, will mean even better, more relevant results than you get today." says Rob Spiro.

Here's a video demonstrating +1 that perhaps could become the next 'Like' in the virtual world and give Facebook a run for their money:
