In this virtual web world, we have eNewspapers, eZines, eCommerce, eShops, eJournals, eBooks and much more. But what about an electronic paper in real world which gives you a wooden feeling of reading and writing? Confused..Don't be! A low cost electronic notepad called Noteslate lets you write, sketch, doodle and most importantly take notes using eInk and a stylus.
This A4+ sized tablet weighs 280 gm having 210x310x6mm dimensions. The e-ink Monochrome boasts 190x270mm, 13” diagonal (750x1080pixels) display. With its sleek design, thin body and beautiful screen, it gives you a look and feel of a real paper. It promises 180 hour battery life which means you can afford to forget to charge it for atleast a week.
Three physical buttons on the user interface for saving current screen, deleting current screen or viewing previous screen makes it more user friendly. On the top side of the tablet, connectivity includes USB Port, SD Card Slot (up to 32 GB) and headphones with a 3.5mm jack and AC/DC 12V. Pen-the basic tablet input comes in magnetic pen holder and has an eraser on its other side. On request, you can also get a Wi-Fi module without any additional charges. Noteslate works on NS Firmware version 0.7 which only permits basic drawings and not fancy graphics and photos. However, it warns you of no web browsing!
Initially, the Noteslate software allows you to make drawings and listen to MP3s using headphones (there’s no speaker). In future, it would bring support for reading PDF files and OCR text recognition for converting written notes to plain text.
The only accessory provided with the tablet would be solar energy backside cover. Wondering about its cost? Its relatively cheap-available for $99 from June 2011 worldwide in three varieties: Noteslate Basic, White and Black. By December 2011, three more colors would be released: Red, Green and Blue. (Still, I find Black the most classy one!) You can purchase it from Noteslate online e-store at Noteslate.com.
This low cost gadget is too simple to use and quite useful in your daily life. It can be used anywhere and by anyone! As its website describes, "Noteslate can be your own diary, notepad, writing memoir, for ideas, blurbs, hints, .. drafts,... your own world, you can believe on and you can create in. A paper for everyone!"
Lets see if the company manages to keep their work and there gadget turns out to be as interesting as they describe it to be. I think the concept is quite exciting...lets hope they are able to live to it. What do you think?
