40 geeks get on a plane, visit places, learn and share entrepreneurial skills, discover startups, talk about internet, mobile, technology, business models and of course have loads and loads of fun.
"Geeks On A Plane" (GoaP) is a program where 40 chosen geeks embark on a journey where they meet entrepreneurs, technology experts, investors. bloggers and few more geeks to learn and share collective knowledge and experiences. A business travel initiated by Dave McClure, founder and general partner at 500 Startups with 20 years of experience as software developer, entrepreneur, startup advisor, blogger and...a fellow geek. "Geeks On A Plane" went for their first trip to Beijing in the summer of 2009, they've also been to Europe, Hawaii, Tokyo and East Asia. According to their website: "We help amazing geeks meet other amazing geeks, and have a great time."
Their next trip is to 'South America' where they will be meeting local geeks from Brazil, Chile and Argentina. It is an invite-only program, and if you wish to catch this plane, then you can apply here. The duration of this trip is from April 29 - May 8, and only those who are willing to attend the entire 10 day tour should apply; estimated budget for the trip is $5000. The plane will take off to East Asia and India later during the year.
As per the website, the program goals are:
- to meet startups, geeks, and investors.
- to learn about trends in internet, mobile, and other technology platforms.
- to gain insight into local markets, demographics and business models.
- to meet cool people, new ventures and have fun on planes, trains and buses.
