Keepsy, a startup that was launched on December 15 aims to change the way people share photographs on Facebook. They provide a platform wherein users can create digital scrapbooks collaboratively by inviting friends on Facebook to contribute images and also lets them gift a tangible version of that photo album; friends can also pitch in to get someone a group gift.

"With Keepsy, anyone can make a page in your photo album in just seconds. No more emailing photos back and forth. And instead of passing the hat around, everyone can pitch-in to your group gift online." describes the site.

A great idea that not only provides digital scrapbooking service but also lets anyone on Facebook create memorable photo album; friends can invite friends to create Facebook pages and contribute images they deem to fit best in the album, they can also chip in few bucks for a group gift; either a printed version of the album and/or an Amazon gift card.

Here's how it works:

Currently their service lets you create birthday albums, they call it "Birthday Keepsy", with time they plan to introduce new types of albums like wedding, high school, baby showers, travel and more. In order to create a birthday album, users have to follow below steps:

  • Pick the friend for whom you wish to create a birthday album.
  • Invite more friends to contribute images in the album.
  • You can choose up to 120 friends to be a part of one scrapbook.
  • Keepsy provides you a list of common friends between the person who starts the album and the person for whom the gift is being created...collaboratively.
  • The person who is to receive the gift will have no idea about this project and will not receive any information whatsoever, until it's ready (or if some party-pooper tells him/her)
  • If you wish to order a printed copy of that album, it must contain atleast 8 pages.
  • Once the digital version of the album is created, it will be posted on your friend's wall on the morning of his/her birthday.
  • The digital album is completely free of cost, if you wish to give a group gift you can invite each of your friends to pitch in money for the printed version of the book or an Amazon gift card; contributing is completely optional.
  • Those who contribute, their names (not the amount) will be featured on the 'sponsored by' area.
  • Keepsy albums are priced at $29.95 for 30 page hardback album and $34.95 for 50 page hardback album; additional set is priced at $5 for 20 pages.

Keepsy is co-founded by Peter Weck and Blake Williams with Peter as the CEO who also co-founded StoryJumper and Blake as VP Product & Marketing who was a Senior Director of Product Management at Topix
