As we bid 2010 goodbye, lets rewind for a short while and refresh our memories with social media trends, technological changes, news that created a whole lot of buzz and changes introduced by various internet giants as well as mistakes made by them.
Apple took most of the limelight during the first half of this year with release of iPhone 4 and introduction of a nifty little gadget iPad that forced Amazon's Kindle rethink its hold on digital books. Geo Tagging became a vogue, real time analysis became a priority, Facebook got revamped while Twitter changed its look and feel as well, our privacy was invaded and of course Wikileaks took everyone's breath away. Facebook Lite Became History
Remember Facebook Lite? Facebook's faded version that was targeted towards cell phone users and nations with low bandwidth. We parted our ways with it within 6 months of its launch...not that we miss it very much. (Read more)

Tweets became a part of history when Twitter donated their digital archive of public tweets to the legendary Library of Congress. This data will be used for anthropological studies and other researches so that our great great grand children can get a glimpse of how we lived in 21st century. (Read More)

iPhone 4G launch was quite ironic for Apple Inc. who are very particular about their gadget's secrecy before its launch. Gizmodo reported loss of a prototype by Gray Powell (Apple's Employee) who reportedly lost it while celebrating his birthday in a German Beer Garden. (Read More)

Google's Guide To Browsers & Web
When Google conducted a survey at Times Square, they were shocked to learn that only 8% participants could correctly answer a simple question: 'What is a browser?' Therefore they launched there very own eBook called "20 Things I Learned About Browsers & Web", a short book with a humorous approach. (Read More)
Internet Giants Aiming At China
After facing lot of clashes with the Chinese, Google eventually did manage to find its way back in China, while Apple launched its very first online store in China featuring all of its signature products without any shipping charges and providing access to more than 300,000 applications. Facebook is still struggling to tap the Chinese market, but hopefully this more than 500 million users company will be able to find its way to a country with 420 million web users.
Facebook Joined Hands With Skype and Amazon
Facebook got together with Skype allowing users to SMS, chat, and call Facebook friends via Skype's 5.0 version; on the other hand Facebook also joined hands with Amazon allowing buyers to create 'Amazon Facebook Page' where one can see recommendations by people based on their preferences and 'likes'.
Everyone Goes Instant: Google, YouTube, Etsy and Google Maps
Google launched Google Instant for smarter and faster search results, with this, 'instant' feature started spreading like wild fire, Feross Aboukhadijeh got inspired to create YouTube instant and as a result bagged a job with YouTube, recruited especially by Chad Hurley. Michael Hart also created 'instant' versions of Google Maps, Images, Amazon and Etsy. (Read More)
Privacy Was Invaded Time 'n Again
This year three major internet companies invaded our privacy, it started with Facebook when a glitch allowed anyone, anywhere to access private information of Facebook users making friends list and chat conversations public. Then a bug was found in Twitter that allowed people to forcibly make others follow them. Google on the other hand admitted that it "mistakenly" collected personal data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks in more than 30 countries; thanks to their 'street view' feature. (Read More)
Facebook Redesigned and Twitter Got A Facelift
Twitter revamped its homepage with the intention of enhancing user's experience by enabling them to view images, videos or geolocations within one page; it also introduced 'who to follow' feature this year. Few months later, Facebook too redesigned itself...yet again.
Gmail Prioritizes Emails and Boomerang Feature Introduced
Gmail decided to enhance email experience even further by introducing 'Priority Inbox' feature that automatically segregates your emails into 'important', 'starred' and 'everything else'. Another interesting feature came into notice called 'Boomerang' that lets you schedule sending emails in the future as per you liking and receive emails as reminders.
Real Time Analysis Are In
Internet world realized the importance of real time analysis this year, Google introduced its real-time search engine, while Blogger came out with real-time analysis for your blog. Feedburner also launched its latest version of real-time stats for RSS feeds.
And yes...there was a 'Boobquake' too!
A Boobquake event shook the social networking world this year when Jen McCreight started this event as a protest against a statement made by Kazem Sedighi who for some reason believes that women who don't dress up modestly lead to earthquakes. Jen invited all the women to wear their most revealing clothes and put Mr. Sedighi's theory to test...this event spread like wild fire. Guess what?...coincidently a minor earthquake did take place that day. (Read More)
