Twitter has revamped its homepage with the intention of enhancing user's experience by enabling them to view images, videos or geolocations within one page with couple of more added features.
"We've learned something since starting Twitter - life doesn't always fit into 140 characters or less" admits Twitter's CEO, Evan Williams and therefore has decided to "re-engineer" Twitter.com. These latest changes in Twitter will not only make things much easier and convenient for users but perhaps curb the usage of third party apps like TweetDeck, Hootsuite or Seesmic as well... But how?
Below is a brief overview of Twitter's latest avatar:
- Instead of a single pane, information is now divided into panes.
- First pane will feature never-ending stream of tweets. Users don't have to click on 'more' button to view previous tweets.
- Second pane will initially display your information but when you click on a tweet from the first pane, it will display image, video or map which may by a part of the author's tweet. It will also show couple of latest tweets from his/her profile.
- You can view a mini profile of a user on the second pane without having to navigate out of your homepage.
- Within the first pane you can view timeline tweets, mentions, rewteets (by you/others/your rewteeted tweets), searches ( with multiple filters) and lists.
As far as third party apps are concerned, speculations have already started stating that Twitter's latest re-modeled web site may pose threat to many start-ups who build tools for specially for Twitter. Mr. Williams however, plays safe and has already announced that "We've made it pretty clear that we are going to create the best experience we can with all our clients. We made it clear to developers that it's great for everyone if we make it as good as possible, because that will create more successful Twitter users."
These changes have been rolled out as 'preview' for some users worldwide who will be able to test the latest version and switch back to older version as well. But with time, changes will happen for everyone and updated Twitter.com is here to stay. Below is a video by Twitter about their revamped website:
