Facebook is undoubtedly the leading social networking site with 400 million users and counting. Google on the other hand in spite of its humongous success in the web world has not been able to make its mark in the social networking front.

Rumor has it, that Google is planning to give another try for a brand new social networking site.

After the disastrous launch of Google Buzz, they apparently are planning to launch 'Google Me'. Although they still have Orkut which is still surviving in countries like Brazil or India, but they need something way better to be able to compete with Facebook.

There has been no official announcement from Google, but a 140 character tweet from Digg's founder Kevin Rose has created a huge buzz in the internet world.

"Ok, umm, huge rumor: Google to launch facebook competitor very soon "Google Me", a very credible source"

In U.S. during March 2010, for the first time the number of visitors in Facebook surpassed the number of visitors in Google. Although in the global front Facebook still has a long way to go in order to compete with Google. Perhaps, Google took it as a warning signal.

Even if the rumors are true, we believe and hope that Google has learnt from its past mistakes and create something more structured this time. Google's different user friendly applications should definitely be an added advantage.

Do you think Google will be able to create a bump in Facebook's vast fan following?
