This week, I was lucky enough to sit down with Horror Expert and Poet Eric Myford. Eric has released two Encyclopedias of Horror and Suspense Films and five poetry collections. He’s a super impressive do-it-yourself dude.

Willy of E-Junkie: Eric, since you encyclopedia is for the horror/suspense film genre, what was your first horror/suspense film and what is your favorite?
Eric Myford: First horror movie I remember seeing was when I was about 3 and it was Q - The Winged Serpent. As for my favorite, always a tough call, but I would have to say "A Serbian Film". It is an amazing movie but it stands out because it's really the only movie out of 3000+ that actually had an effect on me. I thought about it for days afterward and some images are permanently burned into my mind.

As recently as ten years ago, self -publishing was not all that easy. You had to find a decent place to print your book, fork over some dough, and wait for the books to arrive. You couldn’t order piecemeal or wait for some orders to roll in first, you had to buy a bunch and hope for the best. Still, writers would pay thousands of dollars for this option if they were not able to find a publishing company. Like authors, independent musicians and filmmakers were in this same tough spot too.

In February, my sister uploaded a short fiction eBook and sold 541 copies in just 25 days – mostly on Amazon. She earned over $1,100 dollars. The eBook was a short romance of only about 65 pages; a "novelette" she called it. And, it only took her approximately a week to write. She priced it at $2.99, netting $2.09 from Amazon for every copy sold.

When it comes to the question of "how long should an eBook be to sell," many get the impression that you have to publish a full-fledged novel to make sales. As my sister's modest self-publishing success story illustrates, this isn't the case.
