Come June and Google is going to launch its new TV platform, Android TV at Google I/O. Not so surprising, right?
First, Google acquired Nest, trying to invade our homes (and I'm sure that they are currently, working on that) and then coming up with the self-driving cars. Looking at how things are going with Google, there's no doubt that Google is going to revolutionize things around. And here's another industry that Google is definitely planning to revolutionize and that is the TV industry.
In its first attempt to take over the TV industry, Google came up with the Google TV which was a total flop and then the Chromecast that's doing great but this June, Google is planning to come back with a bang with its Android TV.
This news first came on GigaOm who learnt Google's plan from their multiple sources that this June the company is set to announce the launch of Android TV at its Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco.
Well, according to GigaOm, Google is not actually going to manufacture TV but launch a platform that TV and set-top box manufacturers can use to bring streaming services to the TV in our homes and initially, it'll be all about online media services and Android-based video games.
For Android TV, Google has also been talking to a number of media services and you are going to find some very familiar names like Netflix and Hulu Plus there and Google is also planning to partner with a few hardware companies to run the Android TV.
Android TV's UI is all about simplicity and the "key to that is something the company has internally been calling Pano. The idea behind Pano is that apps can surface individual pieces of content right on the home screen in a card-like fashion so that users can browse movies, TV shows and other types of media as soon as they turn on an Android TV." Something very similar to the Netflix layout.
The whole idea behind the Android TV is to allow the users to instantly watch their favorite TV shows, movies and play video games instead of doing that all through apps.
As of now there is no official word about the Android TV from Google but if the rumors are true then Android TV is something that I can hardly wait for.
