Irritated by those Twitter users who thrive on annoying others on Twitter. Wish you can mute them? Well, now you actually can!

Twitter has recently introduced a 'mute' button that allows users to mute their friends without actually unfollowing them. This feature would be available for both mobile (iPhone and Android) and web-based users.

"Today we're beginning to introduce a new account feature called mute to people who use our iPhone and Android apps and twitter.com. Mute gives you even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user's content from key parts of your Twitter experience, " Twitter wrote in a blog post.

What happens when you hit mute is that their tweets will simply disappear from your timeline. You can mute and unmute your friends anytime and your friends won't ever know if you have muted them.

"To mute a user from a Tweet on your iOS or Android device or on Twitter for web tap more and then mute @username. To mute someone from their profile page, tap the gear icon on the page and choose mute @username."

The 'mute' button will roll out to all Twitter users in the coming weeks.
