Moss FM is the world's first radio that is powered by plant. This might be something hard to digest but believe it or not, this radio uses emerging biophilic technology: Photo Microbial Fuel Cells (Photo-MFCs). Electrons and protons produced by photosynthesising plants are harnessed and transformed into electrical current that powers the radio.
The Moss FM is the brainchild of Swiss product designer Fabienne Felder who is a recent graduate of MA Design, Product + Space, Kingston University London. For this project, Felder worked in close collaboration with scientists from Cambridge University, Dr. Paolo Bombelli and Ross Dennis.
According to Felder, "Moss FM makes use of an emerging biophilic technology called Biophotovoltaics. Electrons and protons produced by photosynthesising plants are harnessed and transformed into electrical current."

To create this product, the team created ten Photo-MFCs and depending on the output and efficiency of each cell, can be either connected in parallel or series. The reason that moss was choosen is because of the fact that it grows slowly and is "less efficient at converting the produced electrons and protons into sugars in the second stage—leaving us with bigger potential to collect and transform electrons into electrical current," shares Felder.
The good thing about Moss FM is that it saves a lot of money and is energy-efficient and would definitely give the energy corporations a run for their money.
