For many people Christmas planning has just started but for the online retailers the Christmas planning started long ago and as the holiday is upon us the online retailers are looking for innovative ways to market their products. They do everything from email marketing to incorporating all sorts features and widgets, running perfect social media campaigns to what not to generate sales during the holiday season.

Since the new age media plays an important role in marketing products therefore, it's the number one choice of the online retailer. But when it comes to going the social media way, we have heard a lot about Facebook and Twitter, and how the two help in generating sales.

What about this time I tell you about something pinteresting about Pinterest?

Well, for starters we already know that Pinterest drives a lot of traffic in comparison to Facebook and has changed the way we look for things we want to buy. So why not shift your focus from the Facebook and Twitter and concentrate more on Pinterest, there is a chance it might help you in making record breaking sales this holiday season, something that every online retailer would love to see happening.

As we all know that Pinterest is all about visuals (d'ah!) and has a growing active user base (wow!). With everything in one place; the item, it's description, its price and the customer feedback, what more can you ask more? And this is one reason why it has eclipsed Twitter and Facebook when it comes to generating sale.

Here are five ways you can generate more sales from Pinterest this holiday season:

1. Add Pin It Button to Product Pages

Most blogs and websites have already done this and are also reaping its benefits. So why not integrate the Pin It button on all the product pages on your website and encourage visitors to pin and further repin your content.

Many online retailers miss out the Pin It button intentionally because they think that adding it involves a lot of coding and all but it's simple process. In fact, Pinterest's widget builder make it an easy task. You can choose the button style from the options, insert the HTML code that appears into your product page template the add the JavaScript code just above the closing BODY tag and your work done there. As simple as that!

2. Make it easy for your customers to find what they are looking for

Just don't blindly create boards and pin things randomly. Create different boards for different categories or things and put like wise content on each board. For example - you own an online jewelry store. You can do two things, either create different boards for everything you sell necklaces, rings, brooches, etc or create boards according to the jewelry type like metal jewelry in one board, pearl in the other, gold in another board and so on and so forth. This way your customers/followers/visitors would know where to find what the are looking for.

3. Repin from Other Sites

This is something that we have been discussing time and again, repin from other sites as well. Just don't pin content from your own site, search for relevant content and add them to your boards. This way not only do you get more content on your boards but the boards that you are pinning from might follow you back or return the favor by repinning your content; hence, increase your audience and help you get more followers on Pinterest.

4. Use Rich Pins

The Rich Pin features makes your pins more useful and helps you add a little more details to your pin like price, availabilty, etc.

If you want to incorporate this feature, you need to add meta tags to your website, test your Rich Pins and make application to get them included on Pinterest. Not that a simple task but I bet you can do it.

5. Help your followers with holiday shopping

Give your brand a more personal touch and help your followers with the holiday shopping by creating holiday gift guides for them. Create specific boards and let your followers know what products to buy for family and friends.
