A man who surreptiously fought his way to achieve the freedom for his nation, enduring 27 years of prison and countless indiscrimanations. Nelson Mandela needs no introduction practically. A face of modern day struggle and leadership, Mandela now lies on a sick bed.
The charismatic leader is not only an inspiration for the Rainbow Nation alone but for many youth from various nooks n corners of the world.
Phil Akashi, a Shanghai based artist is one such inspired person. In a intriguing piece of art as a tribute to the great leader, Phil created a gigantic mural of Mandela by punching the wall 27,000 times.
Depicting Mandela's epic struggle against Apartheid and Mandela as an "extra-ordinary artist of peace", the artist has simply used his gloved hands as a virtual brush to paint. Dipped in ink and attached to the glove, Phil has punched the Chinese characters for freedom - "自由" to recreate Mandela's face on the wall intricately. Amazing technique!
The sheer creativity and tributary passion reflected in Akashi's work, earned the mural a place in Shanghai's Graffiti Park where most local artists display their handiworks.
