Speaking Grafittis by INSA

Posted: 5/12/2013
I have seen a lot of street art and written about it. Here's an artist I suddenly stumbled upon whose work is stunningly verbose. It's as if the artworks have a mind of their own and convey the artist's thoughts seamlessly.

Who are we speaking of?

U.K based fine artist and grafitti designer, INSA's works are bold, creative and bring together art, product, graffiti, fetishism, and desire" in a single go. His artworks are of a different league and meant for an "informed viewship".  For some his works may present a certain exaggeration of the notion of "objectification meets commodification with graphically depicted oversized body parts that are suspended in the controlled architectural lines of a sneaker or bold black and white graphic patterns". But this over-the-top bold play with colors and patterns is what makes INSA's work so enticing.

INSA is a thinking artist who studies the paradigm shift that has occured with the influx of technology into artistic domain. He opines that "I flash through hundreds of amazing creations daily. But in the same breath this means I don't really take any of the works in. No matter how big a painting or extensive an installation, all I'm seeing is small online images which aren't necessarily how the artists wanted [their art] to been seen".

While all his works are beautiful, we want to share his latest art project- GIF-iti, a collaborative work with artist Stanley Donwood. The project idea basically depicts the open space that Internet represents. The GIF installations were produced for XL Recordings Office in L.A to celebrate the release of Thom York's latest group- Atoms For Peace(album). Reportedly, each layer took a day to be completed and portrays a similarity to the album's cover art and destruction of the city.

The Atlantic, who interacted with the artist critique his work by saying that "Just like public art anywhere responds to and interacts with its surroundings, so does INSA public Internet art -- its surroundings just happen to be the availability of the animated GIF file format, not the shadow cast by a nearby tree".

Here check out his GIF-iti project and other interesting visual treats.
