Google's wearable technology already rolled out to a software developers for testing, is now on a lookout to up its quality of apps that will add to its popularity when lay folks manage to get their hands on it.
In this context, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerburg has stepped forward and offered their services to Google after using Google Glass himself, back in February. What's interesting is that Zuckerburg and Sergey Brin, Google's co-founder were found openly talking out the project's future at a public event. In a statement issued to Forbes, Zuckerburg expressed his desire to get hold of his very own Google Glass soon and even asked Brin "Is there anything specific you want us to be trying? If so, I want to be doing that."
The signs are clear. Moreover, what with Facebook having the most popular social network and Google's tag name to the Glass project, the success graph can only reach a new high. According to Comcore's estimates, "23% of the time spent using mobile apps is spent with Facebook’s. If Facebook releases an app for Glass, it will likely be similarly popular."
Facebook is not the only one in the app race for the Glass. As of now, Google Glass's "explorer" version has the mobile-only social network Path pre-installed in it. Twitter too is currently testing some apps for Google Glass.
Keeping creativity as a criteria, what apps Facebook will be bringing out is hard to say. However, they can surely capitalize on the Glass's "point-of-view video" and eye movements features. Say for example, the wearer can send a friend request to a person using the facial recognition technology after scanning the person's Facebook profile. Other plausible ideas can be to innovate the image sharing or tagging features.
With Google Glass still being a luxury-for-a-few as of now, the unknowns are many but the air of anticipation is ripe. Hope Facebook leaves its 'mark' here too.
