As a well known proverb goes, "Dance is silent poetry".

On this International Dance Day 2013, we at E-junkie bring for you some of the most successful dance projects funded by Kickstarter.

With increasing commercialization, even artforms like dance and music too succumb to such pressures. Not everyone becomes a one-YouTube hit like the Gangam style or a Harlem Shake.

Dance has another aspect to it than the groove and the pirouettes. Financing a artistic production is a great task, much like running a firm. Costs such as paying the dancers, raising funds for costumes, set-up, musical orchestra, rehearsals, promotions so and so forth are involved.

Over the years, Kickstarter has emerged as the savior for such projects through its crowdfunding program. Since 2009 debut, the site has enabled film makers and other budding artists to make a record 30,000 documentaries, albums, smartphone apps etc.

The real time advantage of approaching a crowd funding site like Kickstarter is that it helps raise the essential finances as well as does the job of promotions single-handedly. One problem with Kickstarter is that despite various categories, almost everything that gets registered for a campaign automatically gets tagged as "creative". Thus actual performing arts, seriously has tough competition from tech projects usually.

In the past few years, as the stats show, dance is one of the most popular Kickstarter project categories. More than 70% of dance campaigns hosted by the site have been successful. The director of DanceNYC, a beneficiary of the online campaigns, Lane Harwell shares their experience by saying "What’s driving cash-strapped dancers to the site is the desire for immediate resources, which you can get through a Kickstarter campaign but you can’t get from applying for a grant".

The process to be start off with Kickstarter is very easy. One needs to log to their website and submit the idea for a project. Once it gets approved, you can kick start your campaign on the site's project page by including a description of the project besides setting a deadline to raise the campaign money. It's a all-or-nothing bet basically. So the essential requirement is - Your endeavor should be a stand-out in creative aspects!
