Pinterest has been the fastest growing social networking site of 2012. However, its runaway success clearly shows a gender divide.
According to popular statistics, Pinterest- the virtual scrapbook of one's interest, is said to be a women's domain. Modea, a Washington-based digital ad agency says that nearly 68.2% of females rule the roost here with fashion, accessories and mushy quotes being popular interactive categories.
Guess that's what drove the gentlemen to have their very own version of Pinterest. Not to take the feminist high tone, the site actually caters well to manly interests, if guys would love to call it that.
I recently stumbled upon this interesting male-version of Pinterest and its called Manteresting- Interesting.Man.Things.
A typical dude's site, it looks to give men what they most like- guns, food, cars/bikes, men's apparel and the pretty obvious girls, to talk about.
Founded roughly a year ago by Brandon and Jesse, the site is still not a popular name nor has been able to reciprocate its parent site's stardom yet. There might be many of us who have not even heard of it but secretly wished to have something like this materialize, right?
While the outline of the site is absolutely same as Pinterest, there are a few 'manly' mutations in its functionality.
1. Instead of "pinning" items of interest, users get to "nail" it. Also whatever catches your fancy can be "Bump"-ed, a Facebook equivalent of a Like button.
2. Unlike Pinterest with its watch-guard user approval mechanism, the clone site mocks at Pinterset with its catch line "Invites are lame! Get started today". In other words, accounts are simple to create, with instant sign-ups.
3. Devoid of girly themes or artistic touches, Manteresting.com prefers manly tones - dark and steely in its outlook. The content is also particularly focused on things that concerns male tastes. For example, Pinterest would typically host a toast, pasta or healthy salad recipe in its Food board. On Manteresting you will find bacon turtle burgers. If that's the kind of culinary humor men can come up with, it ain't so amusing!

4. Manteresting has a "designated copyright agent" to report privacy violations. Pinterest, on the other hand, works on the principle of individual responsibility for an image that is uploaded and pinned.
The site has been making it to the social media news reports since March, when it was registered. There have been other clone sites to Pinterest like Gentlemint and Dartitup in the past but nothing has caught the eye of roving men so far.
Founded by two guys who wanted to make "Internet more awesome", the idea is good. But its still too early to count the eggs before hatching, we believe. Well lets how interesting this "Pinterest for men" gets in the coming months.
You can catch this interesting interview of the site's co-founder Brandon, talking to Tech Crunch's reporter Jordon Crook. The site has been making it to the social media news reports since March, when it was registered.
