Don't you just hate it when your phone's battery is all drained, while you're out and adding more misery, the fact that there's no power outlet in sight. But once after you read this post things won't be the same as before.
We have featured all sorts of products on our blog, like the recently featured SunnySide, FlipSide, Qii or iRock. Each product as innovative and as interesting as the other but the best thing about them is that they are all according to our needs.
Here's another such interesting product - Epiphany onE Puck, a unique coaster that generates electricity by differences in temperature, which can be used for recharging your iPhone, Android or similar device.
Epiphany onE Puck is the brainchild of a US company Epiphany Labs which is based in New Castle, Pennsylvania and is currently being funded on Kickstarter. This product is still in its prototype stage and if it reaches its pledged goal, the company hopes to launch it in the market in 2014.
The Epiphany onE Puck is a tiny, lightweight and portable device which can be easily connected to your phone. It may look like a normal coaster that keeps your coffee warm and beer cold but it's the Stirling Engine inside this device that converts the heat to energy. According to the company, "The idea behind the Epiphany onE Puck is to use a stirling engine powered solely by heat disparities, such as a hot or cold drink, a candle, ice, etc. These heat sources will provide enough power to the stirling engine to fully charge your cell phone battery. There's nothing new about Stirling engines - they were invented in the early 1800s - but thanks to modern materials and modern electronics, we are able to put them to use in ways that weren't previously possible."
You can easily carry the puck in your handbag or backpack and use it no matter where you're, traveling or at a restaurant with friends, all you need is a hot coffee or a chilled juice and voila, your device is recharging.
Here's the prototype video that shows how Epiphany onE Puck works:
Epiphany onE Puck is an amazing product not only because of its unique concept but also because of the cause that it supports. Personally speaking, I would really love to see this product in the market.
If you like Epiphany onE Puck, then do make it a point to back it on Kickstarter before 6th April, 2013.

You can use the blue side for your cold beverages and the red side for the hot beverages.

Well, the prototype is spill resistant but not completely waterproof. Once this device gets funded the company is surely going to modify the design of the device with some changes here and there.
According to Tim Joseph of Epiphany Labs, "Once we have this project off the ground, we'll get to work on larger scale versions of the onE Puck that will provide inexpensive power to households and villages using nothing but waste heat as the energy input." Wow! That's a great device. It can save energy consumption when charging phones and great for the environment too. I wonder how effective it is able to harness heat energy. It will only take a few minutes for a mug to get cold.
Hi Arnel, Epiphany onE Puck is indeed a great device but is still in it's prototype stage. Well, we still don't know how effective it would be, for that we have to wait until it hits the market.
