Through her latest collection of laser cut dresses, Elvira aims to translate 2D sketches to 3D art objects by using a laser to cut black leather and affixing it to sheer white fabric. "This project is about the research on how to translate something from 2D to 3D. Which includes how we look at things that are flat or spatial, how we misinterpret or subconsciously use our imagination to fill in the missing information", shares the artist.
Elvira loves to draw and most of her designs are inspired by her imagination. She wants her designs to look exactly the same as they were sketched. According to Elvira, "A lot of details contained within the first sketches are lost during the process of designing and executing clothing. By literally creating clothing patterns from the lines of sketches or sketching the patterns of clothing and cutting this out by laser, new shapes or suggestions of shapes are created."
