In a time when the written word is often forgotten in a nick's time, the spoken word has an even smaller shelf life. Well that's just a technicality when it comes to Zig Ziglar who made a career out of inspiring top leaders, Presidents and entrepreneurs around the globe.
The week that just passed saw the social media sites paying their tributes to Ziglar who departed the world, leaving behind him a score of motivational speeches, one-liners and 20-odd books that are a soothing balm for entrepreneurs and common people alike.
Interestingly, in addition to being a World War II veteran, he even sold pots and pans before venturing out as a motivational speaker. Guess that's where he derived his wisdom from: real life situations.
Most of us, at least at some point in our lives, would have experienced jitters or developed a cold feet when asked to go onto a stage. Even to simply read out a well written speech from a piece of paper is a task for many. The augury of the attempts would have been enough to deal with much less inspiring the crowd in the course of things.
In short, to be a speaker is not everyone's cup of tea. It is an art cultivated from practice. Moreover, a speaker, any speaker for that matter cannot afford to be boring nor sound sermonizing. Ziglar's charisma lay in just that; being simple yet powerful; crisp yet inspiring.
