A little while ago we'd shared some of the most impactful photographs of the year 2012 compiled by a reputed news agency Agence-France Press. Very recently Instagram also shared some of the most notable events of the year through photographs submitted by its users. The reason why we are sharing these images with our readers is because these images are taken by non-professional photographers like you and me.

"With 2012 coming to a close, it’s only natural to look back at the history-making events that have defined this year." shares Instagram in a blog post.

These pictures are history in the making taken by those who were an integral part of that event, not just anybody covering a story. Some of them are truly heart warming, while some bring back harsh memories. Some of the events covered in this series are London Olympics, US Presidential Elections, Hurricane Sandy  and protest in Buenos Aires to name a few.
