"We took the pulse of the global community on Facebook in 2012 to assemble a series of trend lists, chronicling the top events, the most popular public figures, the most listened to songs on Facebook and more." shares Facebook.
There's no denying that as soon as an important event takes place, it's the users of Facebook and Twitter that break and share the news the fastest. It comes as no surprise that the most talked about event of the year was the US Presidential elections, followed by Superbowl XLVI.
Facebook has also shared top songs, movies and books, other than popular television shows, technology, public figures, check-ins, and memes. Here's an overview:
Events:
Some of the top events of the year were - US Presidential Elections, Death of Whitney Houston, Super storm Sandy, London Olympics.
Songs:
If Gangnam Style would have come a little earlier, nothing else would've stood a chance. Here are the top ones - We are young by Fun, Somebody I used to know by Goyte, Call me maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and What makes you beautiful by One Direction.
Movies:
I was expecting The Dark Knight Rises to top the list, but here's how it goes - Hunger Games, The Avengers, Magic Mike and The Vow.
Check-Ins:
This is the first time that Facebook has shared the most popular check-ins, with Times Square, New York topping the list followed by Disneyland.
Books:
Thanks to the movie, all Hunger Games books have topped the list, followed by 50 Shades of Grey and The Help.
Technology:
Instagram did indeed took photography skills to a new low, but budding photographers have been growing ever since, making it the most popular technology of the year. Timeline, Pinterest, Draw Something and iPhone 5 came in next.
