When I first heard about Cecelia Gimenez's fiasco and her bizarre attempt to 'restore' Ecco Homo, Elías García Martínez's 19th century painting of Jesus Christ, I just couldn't stop and think about Mr. Bean and his similar attempt to restore 'Whistler's mother'. ;)

There is no doubt that Gimenez had her best intentions (just like Mr. Bean) but at the end of the day she did brutally disfigure an historic work of art.


Nevertheless, in this era of social networking such an event cannot be forgotten easily, people all over the globe are gonna talk about it and of course find humor in it. An ad agency in London called BBH London has taken this 'humorous angle' to a whole new level. They've created a website called 'The Cecelia Prize' where anyone can make an attempt to "restore" Ecco Homo and create their own masterpiece.

Once the picture is finished, they can tweet their image using #ceceliaprize hashtag, this image will automatically get posted on website's Pinterest board. Check out some of my favorite picks from the gallery:
