Your Views On Friday The 13th?

"Wow! today is Friday the 13th!" that's what I exclaimed when I saw the newspaper today. Ever since my childhood, this one day always  horrified me, why? because it reminded me of Jason Voorhees from the movie 'Friday the 13th'; he was the one and the only person I was always scared of during my camping trips and if you ask me he even scares me today. And the only thing that I do today while watching Friday the 13th movie is scream "Don't you open that door, you're going to die."

I recently read an article on the internet about the Britishers considering this day bad for their health. The best part about that article was that the author supported this fact with the increase in the number of automobile accidents that happened this very day, over a period of years.

Well, I already knew that for many people Friday the 13th is unlucky and they avoid doing any work this day but this one article was way too extreme. Anyways, there are truck loads of articles talking about the ominous nature of Friday, the 13th on the internet.

Both Friday and the number 13 are considered unlucky by the early Christians as Friday was the day Jesus was crucified and before Christ died his last supper had 13 people dinning together. For many people cutting hair or nails on a Friday brings misfortune, for some marrying on a Friday or on the 13th of any month brings bad luck to the couple, anything 13 in number is bad; many hotels don't have room number 13 or miss out the 13th floor, there is a long list of thing that should not be done on a Friday or the number 13. Well, its generally considered that Friday and the number 13 are considered ominous and when the two of them are combined together they become super ominous. Imagine getting a raise on Friday the 13th; Bad Luck!

There is no scientific reason behind the fear of Friday the 13th, also known as paraskevidekatriaphobia but like many other human beliefs people believe in it and consider this day unlucky. Ask anyone to explain to you why they consider this day unlucky and I bet you'll get no logical explanation. Though irrational, this superstition is widespread today. If you ask me this day is just like any regular day in the calender. For me it revolves around three things - food, work and sleep and that's what I'll do today as usual.
