Most of us judge a movie by its trailer. No matter how many posters we come across or read reviews by best of critics, we always come back to YouTube.

Similarly, when we are about to download an application on our smartphone, the best we can do is check out the screenshots, read the description, and read reviews by those who've already downloaded it. Now, wouldn't it make sense to simply check out a video to see what the app is all about?

I am sure a lot of mobile application developers would love to have a platform where they can interactively describe the app created by them.

A start-up called Vungle is here to bring such a platform to mobile app developers. "Vungle addresses one of the major marketing problems facing mobile application developers and customers alike: discovering how the app really works before you download." shares Vungle's press release.

They also highlight the fact that even if a developer does make the effort to create a video for his/her app, the cost factor is always a challenge. Vungle on the other hand helps developers to cost-effectively create punchy and professional 15-sec video trailers. The USP of this app is that, developers can also monetize through these trailers.

Vungle provides an in-app video advertising platform that allows developers to earn some money by sharing their app's video trailer.

"Our vision is to give mobile app developers an effective and cost-effective way to make real money through the applications they offer to the world," said Zain Jaffer, chief executive officer and co-founder of Vungle.  "Their success is our success, and we are thrilled to have a stellar group of investors working with us to build out this vision at Vungle."

Vungle is a San-Francisco based company that has managed to impress a lot of investors.

"When I met the Vungle team and saw the in-app video advertising platform they were developing, it was one of those 'aha moments' for me," said Maynard Webb, former board member at AdMob and founder of Webb Investment Network.  "They have figured out a way to create high quality video trailers at scale and at an accessible cost – and integrate them into applications for maximum downloads, analytics and monetization.  This company could win big in the exploding mobile applications space and that’s why we’re putting our money on Vungle."

Vungle has recently announced that they've managed to raise $2 million from well-known names in the Silicon Valley, their list of backers includes: Google Ventures, AOL Ventures, 500 Startups, Crosslink Capital, Scott McNealy and Tim Draper to name a few.

Other than being beneficial for the developers, Vungle can prove out to be quite useful review platform for consumers. Vungle plans to launch its beta program by this summer and we wish them the very best.
