But why the hell did she choose children for her project?
Well, she believes that looking at portraits of children puffing away will have a larger impact on people. She wants to draw attention solely on the act of smoking.
"I felt that children smoking would have a surreal impact upon the viewer and compel them to truly see the acts of smoking rather than making assumptions about the person doing the act. " she says.
Frankly, I find these images to be quite unsettling, and I guess it solves the purpose of this project because it did compel me to stop and think about this unhealthy habit for a while. Have a look at these images below:
But before we jump to any conclusions, the kids in the photographs are not actually smoking, they have been given props like chalk or sticks of cheese, and have used candles and incense for the smoke. Check out the video at the end of this post to see the making of this project; you can also find that startling video of the Indonesian kid.

doesnt matter how you pass this off either art or cinematography its wrong from a child posing to the makeup ,we judge adults who put there kids into pageants and rightly so have non smoking in areas and publish about passive smoking etc ,this is disturbing not art an an excuse to free ones ambitions and desire quite sick really ,we try toprotect our children yet there are those that abuse that innocense in the name of art ,
We couldn't have agreed with you more. But it is an artists' point of view, and the children have not been exposed to any kind of smoke in the series...passive or direct. In fact it is incense smoke that you see in the picture.
Nevertheless, is it disturbing to see little children puffing away like this, and one can't get away with such things in the name of creativity and art.
