YouTube has proved that viral marketing campaigns can be a slam dunk, especially for small businesses and individuals because they usually are fairly inexpensive to produce while still being able to reach a wide audience rang. Plus they have the added benefit of people spreading your message easily on their own accord, and without coming across as if you’re trying to shove your brand down everyone’s throat, when you've done a campaign well. But that doesn’t mean that everyone who engages in viral marketing is successful at it, so what makes some campaigns more successful than others?

1. Don’t be overwhelming

One of the most key components of viral marketing is being subtle yet effective. You can’t come out all guns a blazin’ and expect people to accept it with open arms. The most successful viral marketing campaigns are those that subliminally get their message across while focusing on elements of emotion that compel people to share your message.

2. People respond to their feelings

Any range of emotions that you can effectively cater to will work – it doesn’t matter if you have a message that’s wildly humorous or something that pulls on people’s heart strings, the key component is compelling people to share something because of how it affected them emotionally.

3. Put your campaign everywhere

Utilizing every social media outlet that you can will help you spread your message more effectively. The more easily people can find it, the more likely it is to catch on and spread like wildfire. Especially focus on media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube – these sites boast millions of users which you can appeal to.

4. Make yourself stand out from the crowd

Don’t use the same tactics that other successful campaigns have used, then you will just come across as no different than anyone else – and why do people care about campaigns that are cookie-cutter campaigns: they don’t. Instead you have to find a way to make yourself pop so that you come across as completely unique.

5. Keep it alive

Once you have an initial round of success with your campaign keep it alive by rolling out something to supplement it – this can be anything from another small campaign to giving out some freebies to showing funny outtakes from your first attempts – anything that will give your campaign a new breath of life. You don’t want it to die out as quickly as it came to life.

To be successful in viral marketing you have to be relevant and compelling. Viral marketing is one of the easiest ways to spread your message if you can get people to latch on to it because they will spread it for free, so take some time to develop a solid plan. And if you are able to get a campaign up and running successfully be sure to roll with it as long as you can! What are some of your tips for successful viral marketing campaigns?

When you run a website or a blog, the first thing that you work on is to get traffic. The second thing however most of the people ignore. Getting traffic can only be of use if you maintain it and turn it into consistent web traffic.
