FilmBuffet is the destination where you can meet other movie buffs, share your views about a movie and even build a virtual collection of movies. It's a social networking site that lets you befriended with other movie buffs as well. If you're one of those who can't stop talking about films, filmmaker, stars and no one is listening to you on other SNSs; then for no other reasons you'll love FilmBuffet.com as this topic dominates this recent start-up.

The interface is incredibly simple, and even simpler to sign up with them. Other than listed above, FilmBuffet has a lot more to explore. We have its founders Tim Stevens and Juan Carlos with us to tell more about their venture.; how they started up, the challenges and everything you want to know. Catch their interview below:

Tim and Juan, please introduce yourselves to E-junkies.

Tim Stevens: CEO and Co-Founder of Filmbuffet.com. I’ve spent most of my career in the entertainment industry and Filmbuffet represents the nexus of all of those experiences and interests: the love of film, the evolution of social networking and the internet as a business destination.

Juan Carlos: President and co-founder of FilmBuffet. As the architect, product developer and creative director, I was the driving force behind the website development and overall user experience.

Tell us about the fascinating concept 'Filmbuffet' uses.

TS: The concept is straight forward and simple. Filmbuffet provides an online community where people can connect, through film. Movies are such a huge part of our daily lives in so many ways. In social settings, people are always quoting lines, recalling funny or dramatic scenes, in general, enriching their lives through film. Filmbuffet is an extension of that experience or better yet, the continuation of their favorite film moments, online

JC: We wanted Filmbuffet to be a one-stop destination for movie lovers to discuss, view, share and discover new films together. We also wanted to provide a way for individuals to discover the movies a friend or family member has in their movie collection.

What inspired you to start 'Filmbuffet'? We would love to learn about its inception.

TS: My business partner and I had pursued doing a project together, trying to pool our collective talents and experiences. Juan’s original idea was the inspiration for Filmbuffet. It immediately struck a chord with me and together we collaborated on the project and what you see today is that work in progress.

JC: Filmbuffet was designed as an online destination for passionate movie fans to share their thoughts on their favorite movies. The site is intended to be a single destination to keep track of the films they’ve seen, discover new films they might like and engage in conversations with other movie fans who share the same appreciation for film.

According to you, what are the three most attractive features of Filmbuffet?

TS: First and foremost the ability to assemble your own virtual collection. I love the fact that I can view and explore it in an online environment. The collection helps you discover a little about yourself, as well as give you insight into your friends and other members. I also like the member reviews. With reviews, I can read a review and then take a look at the writer’s collection. If their tastes are similar to mine, then I can discover other films they’ve watched that I might enjoy as well. Finally, I love the discussions that occur within our community. We have some avid film lovers who never cease to amaze me on the questions they pose and more importantly the answers we get from our community.

JC: Like Tim, the virtual movie collection is also my favorite feature of the Filmbuffet site. Other features I love are the way a member profile reflects their taste in movies and personality. I also like how a movie profile page highlights member reviews, discussions and other activity going on about that movie.

What kind of reception has 'Filmbuffet' had so far?

TS: It has been incredible. From the moment we launched we saw the proof that we were onto something. Our membership has been steadily growing and we are finding new and exciting ways to broaden our audience. I only wish there were more hours in the day to get it all done. Maybe that will be part of the next upgrade.

JC: The response to Filmbuffet has been great. We’ve received positive feedback from our members and have incorporated a number of their suggestions into the site already.

What were the challenges you'd face in the pre-production stage?

TS: A project like this is always complex, especially when you are creating a new product. We poured over data and wire frames, designs, and tried to get everything just right before we began coding it. Of course you can never account for everything, but that is all part of the process. In the end, all the pre-planning paid off. We are thrilled with the outcome. The site is still as exciting to me today as it was the first day we sat down to view it together.

JC: As a social networking site for movie lovers, we wanted to provide the best user experience possible. So coming up the right navigation and design was a challenge. Each and every element featured on Filmbuffet required a great deal of research, thought and planning.

Now that 'Filmbuffet' is up and running, what is the biggest challenge?

TS: The biggest challenge is to continue to keep it fresh and engaging for our members. As we expected, there are always new ideas coming from our users as well as internally. We think we have a great product and we are always looking for ways to make it even better. The challenge is to take the time to let those ideas percolate a little and see what’s next. We want to stay true to our community and at the same time keep it simple and easy to use, without losing sight of our competition. That’s a balancing act, no doubt about it.

JC: One of the challenges has been to meet the needs of a broad array of different film lovers. So many movie fans are passionate about a specific genre or era of film. From indie films to horror movies, we want the site to be engaging and useful to all film lovers. These avid fans keep us advised on the films and features they’d like to see on the site and their valuable feedback helps make the site even better as we continue to grow.

Share your fondest memory with 'Filmbuffet'.

TS: We were so anxious about going live. I’m not sure why, but I just wanted to make sure it was perfect. I realized that perfection is something that comes with time - and truthfully, Filmbuffet is a response to our community. They will be the voice and drive the direction. We are simply the platform that allows their voice to be heard. Once we went live, it all seemed to fall into place. Our user community has been tremendous.

JC: When we had our first few members sign-up for the site. Their initial contributions made the site Tim and I dreamed of a reality. Reading and participating in the discussions on the site is also wonderful. It’s so nice to see our concept become a reality.

What are your dreams/vision for 'Filmbuffet'?

TS: I really want to see Filmbuffet as the standard for film buffs, sort of what Kleenex is for tissues or Google is for search. That will take some time, but I think there are so many ways that we can be an asset to the movie going lovers. We are dedicated to making Filmbuffet the best online community for them. I think the brand can be a powerful tool for the industry and I would love to see our Filmbuffet community be the voice that speaks to Hollywood.

JC: I totally agree with Tim on this one. I want Filmbuffet to be the Facebook of film. The site film enthusiasts turn to when they just saw a movie, have a film-related question or just want to discover what movies to watch this weekend.

If time machine could take you back when you started, what would you have advised yourself?

TS: Jump in!!! The water is fine. This was new territory for me and thankfully, Juan who is well-versed in the development side and was there to calm my nerves. I tend to be a little too detail oriented and that can cripple a project, especially one that doesn’t rely on an existing structure to roll out. Building this from scratch though was the best thing we could have done. No compromise for our vision, just straight towards the goal of creating a user-friendly social networking site that connects movie lovers with other film enthusiasts.

JC: Good question. For starters, to not be afraid to try something new and don’t waste time waiting for all the answers before you get started. Never lose sight of the end goal and always stay true to the overall site vision and purpose.

And a final word for readers..?

TS: Movie lovers finally have a destination to View...Share...Connect. Filmbuffet

JC: Filmbuffet is the perfect platform for budding film critics, writers and for any film fan to share their opinion about the movies they love and hate. Our members are the voice of the site. They determine the topics discussed, write reviews, rate the films and write the blog postings. It’s really a site that gives
movies fans a platform of their own and allows their voice to be heard.

Tim and Juan, thank you for sparing time to talk to us. Film Buffet is definitely a potential tool to which many internet users will look up to. Good luck from E-junkie!
