Michael Knud Ross is a Norway born, San Francisco based artist who creates beautiful oil paintings. He studied art and anthropology at the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 2000. Earlier, his career started with sculpting and then returning to Painting in 2005, he shifted his focus to paintings.

While surfing through his website, I stumbled on this interesting series that comprises paintings of objects. More than the paintings, I liked the concept behind it. It says that often we overlook the importance of small things that are of huge use and very difficult to live without. Though they are tiny things but have big personalities. Quite sensible, I must say!

Here are some great paintings of those small things:

"The object paintings are tiny paintings with big personalities -- paintings of the meaningful and overlooked items of our daily lives.   A toothbrush is  one of the most personal tools we use;  pink and blue razors are symbols of femininity and masculinity.  Rolling dice represent the decision to take risk; cupcakes are a reminder of the sweet things in life.  Two cupcakes side by side relate like a romantic couple; a group of petits-fours gossip and chatter like a group at a party.  Imbued with symbols and with human-like characteristics, each painting tells a story."
