It could be anything, an iPad, a piano, a car, TV screens, motorbikes, lap tops, a vase or ex-husband's stuff. The company has dedicated a private warehouse were rich people pick their weapon of choice, for example: a sledgehammer, an axe, a golf club, a bat a sword or a bloody chainsaw. They suit up with protective clothing, go to the a rooftop in the warehouse and smash whatever that fancies them.
According to a spokesperson of the club:
“Our message to our members is very clear: It is okay to destroy things. This is not about violence, but the art of destruction.” Further adding, “People can only join if an existing member invites them and we have them in for a session, to get to know them before deciding whether they can become a member.”
Just like any other underground club, this club has certain rules as well. The members have to sign a legal waver according to which:
- They cannot use firearms.
- They cannot destroy anything living.
- They cannot destroy paper work.
- They cannot be under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the destruction session.
The annual membership for this club is unknown, but members can choose to destroy anything between $10 (set of plates) to $2000 piano, or a luxurious car costing as much as $100,000.
But according to the company, most members like to destroy gadgets, and release their frustration on technology. “Some people want a bit of revenge on the technology that rules their lives and some think it's just a great work out.”
Now many (including me) would assume that this kind of organization will be dominated by men or boys who love to destroy stuff just for the fun of it. But to my surprise, this club consists of 40% women members.
Obviously 'The Destruction Company' do not have a prominent online presence, although they do have a website, but it only consists of the company's logo and a link to their Facebook page.
