Today I want to talk about five keys to success. Success does not belong to a select few, it belongs to those who follow the principles of success. The principles of success produce success every time.

Marva Collins said, “Success doesn’t come to you, you go to it.” With that, here are five keys to help you “go to” success.

5 Must-Read Keys to Success:

Key #1: Hard work

Hopefully this doesn’t surprise anyone, more than anything else, successful people do what unsuccessful people are “unwilling” to do. In other words, successful people aren’t doing what others are “incapable” of doing, but what others are simply too lazy to do. Just look at people who successfully maintain their weight. It’s not that they have the market cornered on the secret to weight loss. They are just willing to do what others aren’t. Everybody can run, but everybody’s not willing to run everyday!

Success tip “numero uno” is to decide to do the hard work. The “ugly” work, the work you want to postpone; it’s getting in there and doing it anyway. Swallow that ugly frog, role up your sleeves and put in the time. You’re not going to float to success while “sucking lemonade out of a double-straw,” you’re going to have to fight, kick, and scream to succeed.

Key #2: Carve Out the Angel

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” --Michelangelo.

Michelangelo said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” Every person is like that block of stone, there’s greatness inside, but it has to be carved out. It has to be carved out through hard work; it has to be carved out by the individual who can perceive their own greatness. To succeed, you must carve your greatness out of the block.

Key #3: Get Clarity

You must clearly see and know where you want to be tomorrow; the clearer your goals, the stronger your faith. Clarity builds faith. The stronger your faith, the faster you will achieve your goals and change your life.

You must see your end-result clearly. You must be focused on your goal like a sailor is focused on the port in the harbor in which he is headed to.

It is just as difficult to get to a place you can’t see, as it is to come back from a place you’ve never visited.

Key #4: Move from Your Current Circumstance

What’s a circumstance? It’s a circle (circumference) around your current stance. In order to change circumstances you must change your stance. In order to change your stance, you must change your mind, in order to change your mind; you must change what you think about.

You need to make a conscious decision to focus your thoughts, and your attention on what you want in your life. Don’t focus your attention on things you don’t want in your life. By giving things you don’t want your attention, you are feeding those things, and they will grow bigger and bigger. Remember, what you focus on expands, the good, and the bad.

Key #5: Steady Progress

“The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion.” – Alexander Graham Bell.

Most people want overnight success, however, those who succeed, succeed as a result of many years of steady progress. Are you making progress? Are you closer to your goal this year in comparison to last year?

To succeed you have to make progress, you have to be consistent to win the race. As the quote goes, “The race is not given to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but to the one who endures until the end.
