Amy Flurry and Nikki Salk are the two fantastic paper artists who have done fabulous job with their collective 'Paper Cut Project'. The former is a stylist from last fifteen years and the latter holds a degree in fine arts in interior design. Amy's styling skills and Nikki's understanding of composition of paper, make up a great combination which we call 'awesome twosome'.

This Georgia based duo has created some really graceful hats and wigs out of paper that do not seem to be made out of paper. The finishing is very smooth and their creations give a real elegant look. Such masterpieces made out of paper are a feast for the eyes!

Check out their inspiring interview below with some of their best creations:

Amy and Nikki, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.

We are friends whose work lives in Atlanta intersected at a pivotal moment in both our lives. We recognized a chance to work together, to make something completely new and freshly imagined and then we did it.

Gosh, I love what you guys are doing! Such beautiful paper cut installations. I am keen to know more about your artwork.

These styling elements are fashioned by many pieces of paper, each cut by hand and engineered piece by piece. We use simple materials (paper, glue and a metal blade) and tease these crazy ideas out of them.

How many hours does it take to complete one installation?

Anywhere from 20 to 80 hours, sometimes more.

Amy, you've been a writer, editor and stylist for more than a decade. How did 'Paper Cut Project' happen to you?

I met Nikki at her boutique in Atlanta and we both very much enjoyed talking about the fantasy in the visual storytelling as it plays out in magazine spreads, on the runway and in campaigns. When Salk closed her store in 2009, it afforded us the opportunity to work together and Paper-Cut-Project is what we came up with!

Nikki, I read about you that are in love with paper. How did it happen to you?

In art school, I had a wonderful teacher who kept us busy through an entire semester learning all about paper sculpture. I have her to credit completely with introducing me to the craft!

How do you guys choose the designs of the paper installations?

Often, the client comes to us with a sliver of an idea. We research and conceptualize together before sketching what ultimately becomes a collection, because the clients really need to be able to see on paper just what all of the initial planning talk will look like in final, completed form. Then we just get to work and it all unfolds from there!

What is the whole process involved in creating them?

Nikki is our overall senior/lead artist and we are both always working on the pieces at the same time, usually one of us on one stage of the piece and one of us on another.

Nikki and Amy, which creation has been the most challenging one for you guys?

Any of the projects in which the pieces must be physically prove to be the most challenging because not only must it look great, but it must also function comfortably. It cannot slip or hinder sight or be difficult in any way and that is very challenging!!

And which one you enjoyed the most working on? Which creation is your favorite?

Even though they were also the most difficult, the masks we made for Hermes were favorites.  The texture, the drama, the intrigue that they all create is unbeatable.

Collection For Hermes

Share the best compliment you've ever received for your work.

It was after a recent shoot with Italian Vogue, when stylist Giovanna Battaglia told us that a collection we had made exclusively for her shoot was the glue that tied the whole story together and that she was very impressed.

Would you like to share your future goals/plans with us? Are you guys planning on expanding this project?

We absolutely imagine branching out. We would like to collaborate with a designer or designers; our work would be at home in the theater of runway. We would like to be guest accessories designers for a house, a la Laetitia Crahay for Maison Michel and possibly even create a jewelry line.

What message do you have for our readers?

Keep an open mind and explore every passion.

Amy and Nikki, thanks for this awesome interview. You guys are doing a wonderful job and I hope this project continue to grow. Wish you good luck!
