We feature many creative and innovative small business owners, merchants, artists, graphic designers, authors and bloggers on our blog, but it gets a little disappointing to see them not making an effort to create a simple Facebook page for themselves. Very often we find (mostly individuals) create a Facebook profile instead of a page for business purpose rather than for personal use, forgetting that they are limiting their reach on Facebook to 5000 people; since a personal profile can have no more than 5k friends, whereas a page can have unlimited Likes.

Furthermore, using a profile to meet your business needs is a violation of Facebook's Statement of Rights & Responsibilities. "If you don't convert your profile to a Page, you risk permanently losing access to the profile and all of your content." warns Facebook.

Therefore, I would like to share a very vital information with you that not many people are aware of, you can very easily and conveniently convert your Facebook profile to a page, that will automatically convert your friends to 'Likes' on your page.

"Since profiles are meant for individual people, they aren't suited to meet your business needs. Pages offer more robust features for organizations, businesses, brands and public figures." explains Facebook.

Before you convert your profile to a page, you must make sure that you save your photo albums, profile information, messages, wall posts and status updates, because other than your profile pics the only data that gets transferred to a page is the number of confirmed friends that will be converted into the number of people who like your page. So if you feel the need to save your personal information before converting your profile into a business page, then the first step that you should be taking is downloading all your Facebook profile data to your system.

Once you've saved up all your personal info, the next step is to migrate your profile to a page through Facebook migration tool. You will have to select a category for your page, and fill in basic information about your business or work. From there on, you will be able to log in to your account using your original email address and password.

Please note that once you've converted your profile to a page, there is no turning back, its irreversible. So I repeat, 'make sure you backup your personal profile before migrating.'. Also it is important to note, that the name of your newly converted Facebook page will be same as your profile name. Although you can always change the name before you migrate by visiting your Account Settings>Settings>Name.

Other than the fact that a page can gather many more 'Likes' than a profile can gather friends, another reason why you must consider shifting your profile to a page is that, now there is so much more that you can do with a page; thanks to a major Facebook page revamp couple of months ago.
