According to the most recent reports, non-profits are now raising 10% of their funds online - that’s 13-14% more than they did a couple years ago. With no reason to believe otherwise, the trend will likely follow other online businesses and only increase.
Many non-profits still raise money traditonally, in person or through third-party donation options, but if you aren’t raising funds online, you’re missing out on a big opportunity. Below are a few things you may want to consider.
Note: If you are a non-profit, and you are not taking donations on your own site, then you can use E-junkie to do so, and we even provide our service at a discounted rate, often free for non-profits, just e-mail us.
- Make your donation page should look like you. According to NetworkforGood.org, in 2013 54% of all online donations were made on custom branded pages instead of generically branded pages. You also want to make sure the website, along with the branding, is mobile compatible, so even if your donors are on their phones they seeyour brand and can make a donation. - Make your plea prominent. Make sure your donation option is on its own page, but keep a link to that page on every other page. Make sure the link or button to that page are in the same position on each of those pages.
- Get your supporters to spread the word. Your thank you page, the page donors go to after making their donations, should include more things they can do to help. Whether it's sharing a post on social media, sending a email to their friends or tweeting with your campaign hashtag, make it easy for your advocates to talk you up to their network.
- Branch out. Your website shouldn’t be your only online presence. Set up a blog for your non-profit, keeping potential patrons in the loop about all the good work you’re doing. Setup a regular eNewsletter (utilizing blog content) that can be e-mail to current, past and potential donors. And consider these stats when making your fundraising plan...
