Writing Basics Of eBooks

Posted: 6/09/2014
Anyone could write and publish an eBook. But not all could become a successful writer/author. It requires high level of efficiency. You need to be handling the creation of your book in a highly appealing manner to succeed. Appealing includes 'nice presentation' of 'good content' focused on the subject, using 'apt' as well as 'attractive words' and 'sentence framing.' Below are some of the key points to be paid attention to, which are considered as the basics of writing.

1. Use apt words

Usage of words in a book is very important while framing the sentences. You should try to use simple but apt words instead of trying to use unfamiliar words, though the same will convey the intended meaning. These could however be used, when there is a requirement to convey the meaning repeatedly in different places.

2. Be specific and clear

Avoid use of unnecessary words to convey any information. Be specific and say clearly what you intend to say, without using extra words or sentences.

3. Use active voice to write instead of passive voice

Choose to write your book using active voice and avoid use of passive voice as much as possible.

4. Avoid using words repeatedly

Using the same word or phrase several times will be unappealing. Use of exact verb/adjectives will be appreciated. However, avoid use of adjectives as much as possible.

5. Do not use redundant words

Do not use two different words together that convey the same meaning. For example, do not say 'close proximity' as the meaning of both these words is similar. Do not also use words such as, 'well appreciated,' as it is enough to say just 'appreciated'.

6. Do not over-explain

You need not elaborate any information – say not the same thing repeatedly in different ways.

7. Do not use very long or very short sentences

Avoid using longer sentences or shorter sentences.  While longer sentences will cause the reader feel difficulty in grasping the intended meaning, shorter sentences will not appear good. However, longer or shorter sentences could be used, where there is no other option.

8. Read more books

Read as many books as you can, of the most famous writers to gain good knowledge about writing and to get introduced to new words.

9. Write your first draft and edit your second and third drafts

When you intend to write your book, just start putting your ideas without bothering about any spelling or grammatical mistakes. Focus totally on the idea. This should be the first draft of your book.

Once you are done with the writing part of your book, that is, completed the first draft, leave a day or two in between and begin to read out the content with fresh mind and eyes, as if you are going through it for the first time. Make corrections, alterations, etc., as may be required and this is your second draft. Leave another two or three days gap and read the draft again. Look carefully to miss not any errors, as this should be the final draft of your book. Ensure the flow of content is fine. Beautify the content – phrasing/sentence framing, add up if anything is required and delete if anything is found unwanted or a repetition.

Conclusion

Ultimately, take enough time to gather information on the subject, write out the content nicely, edit the drafts and finalize it to be most appealing in every respect and never rush to finish your book.
