We've all done it, accidentally deleted an important file. Maybe we forgot to save it, or just plain assumed we wouldn't need it anymore.

It happens. We don't back up everything all the time, we're human, we forget. We put it off, we get distracted, or, quite simply, we can't be bothered.

And even if we do back it up, things go wrong: software failure, electrical surge, virus, lost USB, heck, even plague of locusts (it could happen).

Realizing you can't find a file that you desperately need is an absolute nightmare. It brings the calmest individual out in a cold sweat, and the rising panic caused by trawling through places it just has to be has seen plenty of computers become subject to a torrent of verbal abuse usually reserved for traffic wardens, the tax man, or *insert irritating celebrity here*.

But before you throw your laptop out of the window, take a moment to check out My Asset Tag's useful infographic. Whether you're file was in the cloud, on your hard drive, on mobile storage or even a mobile device, they can help you find it. Just follow the arrows and click on the relevant links – it could be the smartest thing you've done all day.
