A Christmas without anything LEGO is like spicy Indian food minus the spices. How disappointing it is when you order spicy curry at your favorite Indian joint and are instead served the non spicy one, same is the case with Christmas and LEGO.
I know its too early to be talking about Christmas but with holiday season officially on, how can one not talk about Christmas. In fact, a New York-based Australian artist
Cimon has already began or to be precise completed with creating a series of sculptures made using LEGO bricks and transformed into a shinny piece of art with Swarovski crystals.
Cimon has not created one or two but eighteen sculptures, twelve pieces from his
'Little Love Stories' collection which was revealed last year during Christmas in New York and six other LEGO scultures. These sculptures would be on exhibition for the audience in Hong Kong between November 16th and December 26th. The exhibition would be housed in a popup gallery which is especially built for the occasion at
Landmark North, Hong Kong.
This is the first time that Cimon is exhibiting his work in Asia. The main attraction of this exhibition is the
'Holiday Town' which is the most complex sculpture with crystal-studded ice-skating rink, Santa's workshop and a running LEGO train spanning nine square feet. WOW! Cimon has spent one and a half year working on this sculpture and has used more that 20,000 pieces of crystal to complete.
Talking about why Cimon choose LEGO, according to the artist,
"I started my artistic career first as a painter where I worked with rich, strong and powerful colors. When I decided to move into sculpture, I wanted to work with a familiar medium but one that was not used often. I remembered how I loved building LEGO sets and decided to try that."
