Video making and editing is no longer a thing that technical people did. With the availability of various apps besides the trending Vine and Instagram, video making, editing and sharing has become all that easy.

In this tough established terrain, YouTube's founders - Steve Chen and Chad Hurley's company AVOS Systems has come up with an iPhone app that allows users to create and share videos using existing videos clips. They call the app MixBit and rightly so.

Hurley shares that the idea to come up with this app was to improve the quality of picture content and provide an open source avenue to help "everyone, not just a select group". Moreover, MixBit was born to curb what Hurley terms the "self-promotional nature of social media".

Technically, the app is very simply configured keeping in mind the wide spectrum of average user base, among whom video making as a hobby and for business purposes is fast catching up.

Some of the main features that the app is offering are as follows:

- The app is free and currently available for iPhone users only. The Android version is still in the developmental stages as informs the development crew.

- Like Vine and Instagram, the app works with a single tap and record mechanism.

- Recordings lasting upto 16 seconds, including a maximum of 256 clips in a single go can be made.

- The main idea of the app is to allow a hassle free mixing of video clips. It is like Photoshop of video making, you layer it according to your needs. In-built in this is a rearrange feature that allows users to cut relevant clip portions and make a draft copy before the final version is rolled out. This works well due to the absence of filters.

- With content sharing and creativity being the cornestones, the app does not need profiles or follwer list to be created. All that is created and shared is for public use.

- Despite the anti-social media clause, users can still share their videos on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, making it a truly open source app.
