One of our readers asked us a very interesting question about how can a just-launched small business use social media to its best interest. And trust me that's a tough question to answer because in the world of social media what works for one person, the same might not work for the other.
There have been n-number of businesses who have had not one but many ups and downs in terms of social media. But this fact shouldn't deter one from exploring it. It's the game changer!
Often small businesses struggle with social media marketing. They have the time, they have the right people, the content and the ideas but still they struggle to get followers. On the other hand, there are businesses who are not even much active but have a huge follower list.
So what is it that does the magic, how can a small business use social media to it's best interest. Here are some quick tips:
1. Make the right choice
Often new businesses go on a social media spree, they start using every social media platform they know about without even giving any thought. They'll be active across all the platforms the first few months and as time passes by they are only active on a handful of them.
There are many social media platforms that one can use but which one is more appropriate is the choice-factor. You need to be sure on how can you use that particular platform, it's only then that you can start using it.
2. Quality is the king
One of the reasons why businesses need to go the social media way is to engage their consumers and this can only be achieved by sharing quality content. Share content that your consumers would find interesting and is a conversation starter.
Now the question here is - How can one judge the content quality?
Let your followers decide this. All you have to do is to experiment and share content.
3. Be social and active
The key here is to be social and be available to your followers. Answer their queries on time, accept all as one, listen to what they are saying and the most important welcome criticism with a smile.
The deal here is that often businesses delete negative comments from their pages, which is a bad practice. Try responding to all sorts of comments you receive. And yes, you can delete spam.
4. Don't forget your niche
As time passes by many businesses generalize their page i.e. they forget their niche and start producing and curating content across different categories. This is a total no-no.
Share content that depicts what your business is about and what it does.
5. Use social media to generate leads
Every business has a different motive behind using social media. But the most common motive that all small businesses have in mind is lead generation.
Therefore, spend enough time and do every possible thing that you can do to reach as many people as you can in the social media-sphere, engage them and convert them into leads.
6. Accept and adjust to changes
"Nothing stays the same", when we say this we're not talking about people or things but the world of social media - it keeps on changing, to be more precise evolving.
Last week, Facebook rolled out its hashtag support and still there are many businesses who haven't started using this feature. This feature is a perfect marketing tool for all small businesses, using it has its own perks. Well, in case you're one of those businesses who haven't started using this feature, it's high time you should. Revise your Facebook marketing strategy and see the magic.
Remember, if you're not going to accept and adjust to the changes that happens in the social media-sphere your followers are more likely to unfollow you.
These are just a few but the most basic tips on you can use social media for your small business.
