Gone are the days when advertising was just limited to the traditional media. Today, the new media that is the internet is considered one of best platforms for advertising, reason pretty being obvious that 8 out of 10 people spend almost 8-9 hours at least on the internet. And since most of this time is spent on different social media networks like Facebook and Twitter, social media has become one of the top most choices when it comes to the selection of advertising platforms on the internet.

We all are aware of the fact that how different brands and services are using Facebook for advertising purpose, cluttering our newsfeed with sponsored stories, page post ads and promoted posts, and the marketplace ad which is located in the right-hand sidebar of Facebook (only for desktop browsers).

And at last, Twitter becomes the newest entrant in the field of advertising. Twitter yesterday announced the general availability of its advertising options for all its U.S. users. Previously, advertising on Twitter was only invite based.

Kevin Weil, Twitter's senior director of product for revenue, made the official announcement about the Twitter ads at TechCrunch Disrupt in New York.

Back in April 2010, Twitter announced that it would soon begin to show ads and after a wait of three years it finally is.

Based on the feedback of the self-service that Twitter launched last year in March, Twitter made changes and enhancements in the service and ended the invite-only period.

According to Twitter's advertising blog, "Whether you're just building your presence on Twitter, or you've already received access to our self-serve ad platform, we've got the right tools to help you engage with the right audience, and ultimately improve your business outcomes."

Well, currently this service is only available for U.S. users, the company hasn't made any official statement about it's worldwide availability.
