I'm sure Steve Job in his heavenly abode must be bursting to beat some sense into filmy freaks who are lining up to portray 'him'.
No doubt his career graph was indeed spectacular but his biopic earnings are going to be more viral than may be his lifetime.
The rat race to gain a brownie point in portraying his life, just got a new entrant and April promises to be a packed house for those who prefer offstream cinema like these.
First and probably the high scale biopic is 'Jobs' starring Ashton Kutcher, followed closely by Aaron Sorkin's project. While these two takes on Apple's former CEO comes with the promise of a thorough research, the newest in the race- iSteve by Funny or Die, an entertainment website, is a parody with info picked up from Wikipedia and other such online portals.
Starring Justin Long of the DodgeBall fame, it parodies the unending melee of biopics that are unfolding on Jobs after his demise in 2011. Rumored to be released on April 15 online, the 75 min biopic, is a sure laugh riot.
The project producer, Allison Hord explains the intent of the parody clearly for an audience that may be sensitive to their laugh gag project. After all, Jobs was a big fish in the tech world. She puts that “We were kicking around the idea of making a fake Steve Jobs movie trailer, and as often happens in a writers’ room, the joke kind of escalated...Even the harshest fanboy critics will be able to laugh with us.”
The biopic will see, James Urbaniak and Michaela Watkins in the role of Bill and Melinda Gates and Jorge Garcia as Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniack. Long's past spoofs include Mac-versus-PC commercials.
Kutcher's film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Fest in January, to be released on April 19, 2013. Sorkin's film on the other hand is quite tight-lipped about any release dates so far. They only inform that "entire movie is going to be three scenes and three scenes only that all take place in realtime".
'iSteve' was a much less hassle free project. The writer Mr.Perez, who has earlier done parodies on "Zero Dark Thirty" as well, reportedly scripted the story in just three days and was filmed in five days.
Well lets see who capitalizes on the Steve-Jobs mania the maximum on the silver screen, come this April.
Till then R.I.P Jobs...hopefully!
