Well the Easter of 31st March should have been all about this only. But a small section of the tech savvy world caught a uncanny cold this wintry day.
The reason was a simple yet not so simple Google Doodle !
As a commemoration of the late U.S labor leader's 86th birthday, Google honored Cesar Chavez with a doodle on its homepage.
Nothing surprising or out of the blue in the act. So why did the web world, especially the Twitteratti choose to make a mountain out of a mole hill ?
The reactionary tweets were such that some users tweeted to subscribe to Bing and abandon Google! Really?
Google Doodles are fairly common. Infact, Google describes it as "fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists
That's that! But there has to be a reason for the apparent over reactions. Lets dig a little deep.
For one politics may be a reason. The honorary Doodle has been hosted at precisely months after President Obama visited Keene to dedicate a memorial monument to the late leader besides declaring it as a important historical monument. Moreover, this year marks the 50th anniversary of United Farm Workers led by Chavez during his heydays. The President also officially declared March 31st, 2013 as Caesar Chavez Day.
The second reason is a lot less simple, apolitical but of our concern . According to reports, Google has never created a doodle on Easter since 2000. Back in 2011, on Easter occasion, Google sprung up with a Robert Bunsen doodle, commemorating the German chemist 200th birth centenary.
Coming to the counter argument about hopping onto Bing. The users cite that "Bing's website features a ton of brightly colored eggs to commemorate Easter."
So basically its not the first time that Google has done so; they are sticking to old habits. So does that mean the web users have suddenly developed a political consciousness out of the blue ? Or is this particular Doodle with its leftist tinges that is irksome precisely ? And does transition to Bing suggest a rational dissent against Google ?
These are precisely the hovering questions that got us thinking about the audience that the Web is cultivating. While Easter is all about celebrating the rebirthing, we do hope that the current niche of web users don't go down a narrow abyss of intolerance at petty Doodles for Christ sakes !
Here are some of the insane reactions that the Twitteratti handed out.

#Google offends 1/3 of the world, by honoring Cesar Chavez' birthday in Doodle, over the resurrection of Christ? #fail I use #Bing now!

Google doodle today celebrates Cesar Chavez, not Easter. I think it's time I migrate to Bing. Happy Easter everyone!

Happy Easter @google just downloaded Bing! You can take you Chavez doodle and your insulting snub to all Christians and go away4.

Why did Google NOT use Easter as a #GoogleDoodle on Easter Sunday 3/31/13? Maybe I should start using Bing.com5.

Happy Easter, Google. Nice Doodle. So it's Chavez today, for real? Ok then.Settings>Search>Default>Bing>Save Changes.6.

Google uses Caesar Chavez on Easter instead of using something Easter related? Okay, I'm switching to Bing. #tcot #google

Thank you Google, your decision to honor Cesar Chavez on Easter makes it easier to switch to Bing.

Perhaps if we hadnt allowed technology to permeate the very fabric of our lives, we wouldnt be outraged by something like a #Googledoodle

i consider myself a very spiritually-open person ...but not sure how i feel about @google's failed attempt at an #easter #googledoodle... :/

Seriously @google?! Your #googledoodle today is #CeasarChavez and nothing to do with Easter celebrated by Billions of Christians today?!

Thank you #GoogleDoodle for honouring Cesar Chavez today. He's one of the most Christ-like examples we've had on our lifetime. #vivacesar
