We've come across quite a few innovative ways to charge an iPhone, an Everpurse for instant which is a purse that acts as device to wirelessly charge your iPhone. iRock is another such creative innovation that lets you charge your iPhone as you sway.

By transforming motion energy to charge your iPhone or iPad, iRock is a very stylish and clever charging device. Not only is it a charging device, it also has in-built speakers along with an iPad stand.

"The iRock is an updated version of the traditional rocking chair." share the designers of iRock.

iRock is handcrafted by a team of Swiss and Swedish designers using Swedish pine; they've maintained the classic and traditional look of a rocking chair which is also an excellent example of modern and creative approach towards technology. The chair is available in 5 different colors.

"The amount of technical gadgets we have learned to depend on has increased dramatically the last couple of years. The iRock is an product that explores how furniture can interact with technology and actually support the power for this technology." share the designers.

There is no denying that with the current momentum, reliable source of energy will be a challenge in the future, therefore innovations like these are becoming vital for us to sustain this exponential technological development.

The mechanism behind functioning of iRock is no rocket science, it works on a basic law of physics that transforms movement and friction into energy; energy that can be used for various purposes. This is one such excellent example.

Although bringing it to practical use was bit of a challenge for the designers, after several attempts to get the generator working efficiently, they finally came up with a solution. After applying and rejecting the idea of using rubber bands and springs to increase the effect of movement, they decided to go with winding mechanism,

"After long nights at the lab, loads of cold pizza and warm beer, problems that seemed not having solutions and solutions that offered yet new problems we are proud and happy to have not only figured out how to do it, we have learned enough to apply power generating mechanisms to doors, drawers and stairs." shares iRock's website, "so keep on rocking to keep on saving electricity."

Although charging might not be as fast as you expect, 60 minutes of rocking on iRock charges your iPad 3 to 35%. You can however, use iRock to charge any Apple device.

The chair is still under development and at the moment is available in only in white; the chair costs €1300 and I agree that is priced quite steeply.
