As time passes by siblings drift apart both physically and mentally and tend to focus on their own personal life, losing touch with each other but the girls at Six Sisters' Stuff, surely know how to stay together even when they are living spaces apart. Six real sisters from Utah Camille, Kristen, Elyse, Stephanie, Lauren and Kendra decided to start the Six Sisters' Stuff blog in order to stay connected with each other in February 2011. Through the blog the Six Sisters share their ideas, recipes, stories and DIY crafts.
The Six Sisters, before taking a plunge into the ocean of blogging were constantly in touch with each other for family recipes, DIY craft projects, ideas and home improvement tips; for them the perfect way to share those ideas was starting a blog. But as the word of mouth started to spread around, more and more people were visiting the blog day by day. So what started as an easy way to share family recipes, DIY projects and tips among Six Sisters, has today become a popular blog in the cyberspace.
The recipes that you'll find on the blog are healthy family favorites and pretty easy to cook. There's a section totally dedicated to craft on the blog which has all answers to your craft needs. The Six Sisters even sell eBooks on recipes and tips on blogging and dating on the blog. The blog is a complete package for the readers and is a must follow if your searching for a blog for yummy recipes and cool DIYs. 1. Hi Six Sisters, please introduce yourselves to our readers.
Hi! We are the girls from SixSistersStuff.com - Camille, Kristen, Elyse, Stephanie, Lauren, and Kendra. We're all originally from Utah, and yes, we really are all sisters! We range in age from 16 to 28, so we're all pretty close. Growing up that close in age with no brothers, we had a great time. It got a little crazy at times, but now we're best friends.
3. How was growing up for the six of you and how has life changed for you guys, now? How do you handle all the adulation? The Six Sisters, before taking a plunge into the ocean of blogging were constantly in touch with each other for family recipes, DIY craft projects, ideas and home improvement tips; for them the perfect way to share those ideas was starting a blog.
2. What is Six Sisters’ Stuff all about? What inspired you guys to come about creating it?
Six Sisters' Stuff started back in February of 2011 when we were all being pulled in different directions. One sister was in California, another in Missouri, another was heading off to college, and one sister had just lost a baby. We started this blog to stay in touch with each other - to share our ideas, recipes, stories, and crafts. And really, that's what we still try to do - share our successes with not only each other, but the rest of the blogging world.Growing up, we were always in the kitchen - watching our mom bake, eating, and just chatting. We fought especially over boys and clothes, but we loved each other. Now, those fights have ended, and it is a lot harder to get all six of us in one place. But when we do, we always end up in the kitchen talking about new recipes, old favorites, and just our lives in general. Because we're more known in the blogging world than in the "real" world, we don't notice much adulation. We do get the sweetest emails from our followers sharing their stories and their appreciation, though. That is what makes blogging so great - we have such a supportive community and such dedicated followers! We are just so grateful to them!
4. Your website is pretty interesting and one of my favorite section is the Recipe one. Whose brainchild is it? You guys have got some mouth watering recipes there. Approximately what percentage of these are recipes are family recipes created by you or handed down to you?
The Recipe section was the brainchild of the three oldest sisters. At the beginning, the majority of our recipes were our mom's and grandma's classics. They were the ones we grew up with, and we put them on the blog because we make them over and over again! As we grew and started looking for new recipes, we had to start looking in other places - other blogs, magazines, friends, and other cookbooks. We always add our own spin to them, but as far as recipes go that are our own or handed down, we say around 1/4 of them our ours.
5. You have an amazing fan following. How did you promote the blog initially? Your views on promotion using social media vs promotion via word-of-mouth mentions.
Initially, we didn't do too much. We kept growing, just by other bloggers spreading the word, but we grew exponentially once we started pinning things on Pinterest. With a delicious looking recipe picture, our recipes spread like wildfire on there. We then started promoting on Facebook and Twitter and we continued to see a great increase in growth. As far as social media vs. word-of-mouth mentions, we are more particular to social media because our entire business is online. With social media, you reach the same audience as those who look at blogs. We still like word-of-mouth mentions, but it is a different audience then our readers.
With the great success we have had, we get hundreds of emails every week asking how we did it. We created our two eBooks (How To Make Money Blogging and 10 Ways to Grow Your Blog), but we wanted to be able to help those bloggers face to face. We decided to host our own conference that would help answer the questions from beginning bloggers and share the secrets to our success with everyone.
7. Apart from working on the blog, what activities do you guys enjoy the most? Biggest compliment that you have received for your blog?
All of us like to be active. Three of the six are really into running. All of us really enjoy reading and we pass our favorite books between all of us. We are also all huge shoppers - if there is any activity we are good at, it would have to be shopping. :) I think the biggest compliments we receive is when we get emails from our readers who have loved a recipe, or how great it is that we stay so close and what a tribute it is to our parents.
8. If each one of you is given the option to be some superhero (or be given a magical power), who/what would it be and why?
All of us could use an extra pair of arms - we always seem to be in need of some extra hands. It would also be nice if we never needed sleep - we could get so much more done that way!
9. What are your future plans with the Six Sisters’ Stuff? Are you guys planning to add any new features to your blog?
We've got a few plans in the works right now. We'll be releasing our first book this coming April and we are really excited! We also have a new button feature we're working on with another company (Recipe Magic) that will allow our readers to get all the nutritional info from a recipe (including the weight watchers points), make a shopping list, find other recipes similar to the ones they love, and help them plan their menu. We're pretty excited about that, too!
10. What advice would you guys like to give to budding and aspiring bloggers/writers?
Find something that you are passionate about. We LOVE simple, delicious recipes and easy crafts, so it is really easy for us to enjoy writing about what we do. If you can share your passion through your writing, people will be able feel that passion and will be drawn in by it.
Thank you Six Sisters for taking out the time and doing this interview with us. We'd like to wish you girls and the Six Sisters' Stuff the very best for the future.
