I'd never imagined that designing a logo can cost as much as $100,000,000.
Stock Logos has recently compiled a list of famous logos and the amount of money it took to design them. The Olympics 2012 logo on the left for example, was designed for $625,000.
What's more surprising, is that one logo that we see almost everyday was designed for $0. Although over the time, it has been refined but the essence remains the same.
Google, one of most widely known logo was designed for zero amount of money, so was Coca Cola's logo.
John Pemberton, Coca Cola's inventor has this logo designed from his bookkeeper Frank Mason Robinson, "Robinson came up with the name and chose the logo's distinctive cursive script. The typeface used, known as Spencerian script, was developed in the mid-19th century and was the dominant form of formal handwriting in the United States during that period." explains Stock Logos.
What's strange in this list is that the logos that I actually like are the cheapest ones. Perhaps it is the brand value that they carry, but then it took only $35 to have Nike's logo designed. In fact, the designer of Nike's logo later awarded with Nike's 500 shares, these shares cost about $600,000.
