Mozilla has recently announced the launch of 'Webmaker', a project that aims to make the world 'web literate'. The purpose of this project is to convert people from web users to web makers.

Webmaker will not only teach people how to make websites, but also help create web-related projects and apps, while creating a community comprising of people from various walks of life.

Webmaker will provide new tools and software, come up with creative starter projects with how-tos and recipes, that will encourage people to get creative with the web and also instill confidence.

To bring like-minded people together to share ideas, creations, tips and much more, Webmaster will be conducting various events. The first event is called 'Summer Code Party' that starts on 23rd June, and everyone is invited to join and learn how the code behind the web works. Mozilla strongly believes that it is high time that everyone who uses the web, must have some knowledge about coding.

"The web is becoming the world's second language, and a vital 21st century skill — as important as reading, writing and arithmetic,' says Mark Surman, Mozilla's Executive Director. "It's crucial that we give people the skills they need to understand, shape and actively participate in that world, instead of just passively consuming it. That maker spirit and open ethos is vital to Mozilla, our partners, and the web."

This is definitely a great initiative by Mozilla to create a web literate planet. We'll just have to wait and see that how successfully Webmaster manages to teach people how to make the web,specially those who have absolutely no idea about coding. What do you say?
