Emart, the Walmart of Korea has come up with one of the most creative ideas to boost sales, using the sunlight and an innovative QR Code concept.

They have strategically placed 3D QR code sculptures at different places in Seoul. These QR codes can only be scanned between 12 and 1pm, because during this time the sunlight is such, that the shadows reflected on the sculpture completes the QR code, making it scannable.

Those who are able to successfully scan the QR code are given exclusive discounts (up to 25%) at the Emart store, purchases can be made directly using a smartphone. The reason for putting up Sunny Sale between 12 and 1pm is to enhance sales during lunchtimes.

This is by far one of the most creative use of QR codes that I've come across, other than creatively increasing sales during quite lunchtime, such sculptures can only intrigue people, resulting in eventually scanning the code. And there is nobody who doesn't like to receive discount coupons. A win-win situation for both!

Emart has reported 58% increase in sales as compared to the previous month, and have also reported 25% increase in sales during lunch time. Check out the video of the campaign below:

All the retailers out there must gain inspiration from this campaign!
