Few of us have not seen Tibetan monks in some movie or TV programme who meditate to the point of floating in the air. Or those yogis who meditate to the point of being able to contort their bodies in innumerable ways. While all this is pretty cool, it is not what we want to help you achieve in this article. Our aim is to help you to access the power of meditation and use it to propel your blog to the next level.

Yoga at its core seeks to improve your mental and spiritual wellbeing while keeping your body lithe and energetic. Though it is an Indian practice thousands of years old, its precepts are beneficial to modern life, and more specifically to that blogger cooped up in some lonely office or home study. It offers the faithful yogi a happier and more fulfilling existence. Here is how:

  • Take up physical activity: Yoga and other reputable training and weight loss experts like Weight Watchers advisors, encourage you to take up some form of activity to put your muscles to work. This is something rather foreign to most bloggers as all they know is wake up-go to desk-type articles-go and sleep. This work-enforced lifestyle of minimal exertion of the body has contributed to many of them being out of shape. And a number of fellow bloggers have confessed that it is beginning to affect their health and their productivity.
  • Go to bed: That’s right, don’t fight sleep trying to squeeze in a couple more articles into the wee hours of the morning. Listen to your body when it tells you it’s time to shut down (your PC could do with a bit of down time itself!). This simple yoga principle will see to it that your mind is fully charged the next morning, enabling you to make better use of the day. A cool shower before hitting the sack will help you fall asleep faster.
  • Have a bite: When your stomach demands food, feed it. Don’t wait for the official lunch hour so that you can have company when you go out. Your body needs this fuel to function and the fact that you have an appetite is a sign of good health. Obeying your appetite promptly will help you avoid indigestion and other gastronomic complications that come when you cram food into your stomach even when you’re not hungry. Pair this with a wholesome diet and you’re on your way to achieving peak performance.
  • Don’t have a bite: No, we don’t mean stop eating; we mean start fasting at regular intervals. This is one of the yoga principles that many find hard to follow, yet it can be one of the most rewarding. Now, remember that the objective of fasting is not weight loss; it’s more to give your digestive system a break, just like you need a break from work every once in a while. Water fasting, where you only take in water is particularly great for the elimination of waste from your body.
  • Meditation: While this principle has been misconstrued severally, its aim is really simple: freeing your mind from all the pressures and cares of your professional and domestic life in order to relax.

I have practiced all of the above activities and have seen great results. In particular, by balancing my diet, exercise and sleep together with weekly meditation, I have managed to remain focused on my goals, developed several demanding blogs at the same time, and have maintained calm and piece of mind. What is your experience? If you are not using yoga practices to re-energize and de-stress from your blogging work, what is your preferred method?
