'Word As Image' By Ji Lee

Remember TypePlay project? A project that aims to create million words while playing with typography. I was greatly influenced by the way artist used simple words but depicted them so creatively. (Type Play Project: Playing With Words 'n Typography)

Running on similar lines, I found this project 'Word As Image' by Ji Lee. The challenge in creating them is to see a word beyond its actual functionality. It is amazing to know that this project started 20 years ago as an assignment in the artist's class art school.

"The challenge was hard, so the reward of “cracking” a word felt great. This became a lifelong project for me", added further by Ji. Through his project, Ji aspires for bringing back the childhood memories and those forgotten fun activities.

"Soon, letters turned into words. Words turned into sentences. Sentences turned into thoughts. And along the way, we stopped playing with them and stopped marveling at A through Z."

Though TypePlay project and Word as Image project are based on a similar concept. But it's amazing to see variety in both of them. BTW, which one you liked more?

You will need to contact the Artist before printing the designs on a t-shirt for your own use.
